It was around
5:00 in the evening when we were waiting for our ferry at Calais port.
I asked my
husband, “When will we reach London?”
“Umm!! Around
9 pm”, he replied while scrolling facebook in his phone.
As per our plan, we were supposed to go
by coach to London and then Coventry and then to Leamington (a beautiful town
in England, where my home is) by cab.
After waiting
for almost an hour finally our Ferry came.
“We will get
late!!” my husband declared, at around 8 PM.
We then
decided to change our plan and go directly to Leamington from London by train.
Well, then
started a series of bad decisions, bad timings and of course, BAD LUCK!!
While
checking the train schedule in my husband’s phone, suddenly, the internet
stopped working and there were only a few pennies left as balance and my phone
was already dead!!
Then we
discovered that after having a luxurious and well spent holiday in Paris, we
had hardly any money in our account.
At around
10:30 PM we reached London and boarded a tube train from a nearby station to
London Marylebone.
Those 40
minutes in the train were like a serious horror movie!!
There were
hardly 4-5 people in that train, the lights were blinking continuously, the
train was wobbling the whole way, and there was continuous spark of train
scrapping on the track with a very bad sharp sound!!!
I prayed to
God for our safety and wished those 40 minutes to pass asap.
When we
reached London Marylebone, we found out that the last train had already left
and the next train was in the morning!! So we decided to stay in hotel.
But, guess
again, all the nearby hotels were either full or were hell costly!!
Standing
somewhere in the middle, we were thinking of what to do next, 3 drunken men
came and started asking “Do you have change? Do you have change?”
While asking,
one of those almost fell on me!!
Though London
is safe, but in that moment when everything was going wrong, we didn’t trust
anyone.
My husband
held my hand and dragged me out of them and we were back to the station.
Seeing both
of us tensed, the only officer at the station (and angel for us) came and
helped to book a cab at a very cheap price (almost half).
Well, as we
didn’t have money to pay for the cab, we called our friend at around 2PM if he
could help us. The moment he approved, we got in the cab and at around 4 in the
morning we reached home safely and our friend paid for the cab (a friend in
need is a friend indeed!!).
Lesson
Learnt!! Always have extra money in your pocket, balance in your phone, and
most important, always have a very good friend!!
